Check-In Compliance

The percentage of clients who submit their scheduled progress check-ins on time — a leading indicator of coaching retention.

What it actually means

Check-in compliance is the operational metric that captures how reliably clients submit their scheduled check-ins (weekly photos, weight log, notes, adherence questions). Above 80% compliance correlates strongly with client retention; below 50% compliance is a churn signal that often precedes cancellation by 30-60 days. Coaching software that automates check-in reminders, makes submission frictionless, and surfaces non-compliant clients to the coach has measurable impact on retention.

Distinguishing it from look-alikes

Check-in compliance is a leading indicator (changes BEFORE retention does). Coaches who only watch lagging indicators (cancellations, MRR) miss the early-warning window. Cadence's check-in dashboard surfaces clients with declining compliance scores BEFORE they cancel, letting the coach intervene with a personal message at the right moment.

Examples

90%+ compliance
Healthy retention pattern — clients are engaged
60-80% compliance
Watch closely — typically 1-2 clients on the bubble
Below 50% compliance
Churn imminent within 30-60 days unless coach intervenes
